Friends, while the spring salmonellosis outbreak western U.S. has abated, we are getting some reports of songbirds who have both crusty eyes and neurological symptoms. This is an unknown fatal disease rampaging in the mid-Atlantic states and out to western Pennsylvania. We urge you to take your seed feeders down and stop ground feeding immediately until October 1. At the very least, keep cleaning your feeders weekly.

Special note on hummingbird feeders - it should be okay to leave them up until Oct. 1 but please empty and sterilize them weekly until then.
