The 2024 Christmas Bird Count took place on the winter solstice, Dec. 21. That day, ice fog reduced visibility and limited access in many areas. However, 50 intrepid counters logged 875 individual birds of 44 species, including one species that had not previously been reported on count day: an American Three-toed Woodpecker.
In addition, during count week, a Hermit Thrush and a Western Meadowlark appeared.
Many thanks to the 50 counters who found and identified so many birds, despite the difficult conditions. And, much appreciation to Susan Marsh who, again this year, organized the count and compiled all the reports.
