Greater Sage-Grouse are found across 11 western states in North America’s largest but often overlooked ecosystem. This inconspicuous lekking species was once so prevalent that they fed many pioneers during their grueling westward journeys. Today, with a majority of the birds found on public lands, they’ve become a political football. In this presentation, Daly will discuss the political intrigue that has plagued its management, review the threats to its habitat, and share the latest science (spoiler alert: they aren’t doing well!).

Daly Edmunds is the policy and outreach director for Audubon Rockies. Daly is responsible for furthering the Sagebrush Ecosystem Initiative on a regional scale, working with government representatives, conservation organizations, and community leaders. She also serves as liaison to the 21 independent Audubon chapters in Audubon Rockies’ three states. Daly received her master's in zoology and physiology from the University of Wyoming, on pronghorn research. Prior to joining Audubon in 2009, she worked for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, National Wildlife Federation, and Wyoming Wildlife Federation.
